How do I enable Google Analytics on my events website?

Google Analytics enables you to track the visitors to your events website, and generates reports that will help you with your marketing efforts.

Follow these instructions to enable Google Analytics on your account. We strongly recommend that you use only this method to enable Google Analytics on your events website.

Getting a Google account

Before you can enable Google Analytics, you'll need a Google account. If you already have one then skip on to enabling Google analytics, else create your Google account here.

Enabling Google analytics

EventHQ supports and recommends using Universal Analytics, which is the latest version of Google Analytics.

Although EventHQ also supports the usage of Classic (Asynchronous) Analytics, you should use Universal Analytics unless you have specific implementation requirements. Universal Analytics has all the functionality of Asynchronous Analytics in addition to new features.

1. Begin by going to the Google Analytics homepage and click the create an account link in the top right corner.

2. On the next page, click sign in or create account

3. Once logged in, create a new property

  1. Select "website" under what would you like to track
  2. Enter an appropriate name (e.g. My events pages)
  3. The website URL should be https://{your-subdomain}.eventhq.co.uk
  4. The remaining fields are optional
  5. Click the blue "Get Tracking ID" button

4. Find the tracking code (UA-########-#) and copy it down somewhere

Enter the tracking ID from above into the Tracking ID field

We strongly recommend you tick the Enable universal analytics box

Unless you have a specific reason, the enhanced feature set makes it worth using universal analytics over the older "classic" style.
